At the Charterlink Boating School we offer courses which will increase your knowledge, confidence and experience on the water through the internationally recognised RYA sailing programmes. We do this in the safe environment of the Marlborough Sounds using boats which are easy to handle and with professional instructors who are skilled, relaxed and friendly.
We offer Start Yachting, Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore courses (all of which are boat-based courses) which are full of practical advice and useful techniques. Take them further too – for those interested in a career in the super-yacht industry RYA Certificates of Competence are recognised internationally and can be commercially endorsed. Finding the right course for you
Our RYA practical courses take place while cruising on our RYA Training Centre yachts. You can enter the scheme at any stage according to your knowledge and experience. A chat with our experienced instructors will help you decide if you are unsure at which level you should start.

Courses for 2010 are available now!
The options are:
Start Yachting - A short introduction to sailing which gives basic sailing experience.
Competent Crew - Achieve skills needed to be a useful crew member aboard a yacht.
Day Skipper - An introductory practical course for all members of the family or crew including those new to boating. Useful for a wide range of boats including yachts, launches, powerboats, jet skis, sea kayaks and waka.
This course will enable you to skipper a small boat safely by day.
Coastal Skipper – practical (boat based) - An advanced course covering coastal navigation, weather, passage planning and seamanship relevant for coastal voyages
This course will give you the skills to skipper a 7-15 metre cruising yacht on coastal and offshore passages by day and night.
Yachtmaster Offshore – preparation for Certificate of Competence. As for Coastal but with advanced navigation and meteorology.
This course gives you the skills to skipper a yacht up to 150 miles from harbour.
Certificate of Competence - gained after practical examination by an independent assessor is available as an endorsement for Coastal Skipper and Yachtmaster Offshore. The exam assesses the candidates ability to skipper a yacht and takes place over 6-8 hours for Coastal and 8-12 hours for Yachtmaster Certificates. Candidates must have a Radio Operator’s qualification, a First Aid Certificate and appropriate seatime. Certificates of Competence can be endorsed for commercial use and are widely accepted as professional qualifications.
